If you have discovered your signature scent you’ll want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. Whether it’s a scent you designed yourself in our workshops or one from our collection, there are a few simple ways to help your fragrance stay with you all day (and into the night).
Why You Stop Smelling Your Perfume
Our sense of smell is closely linked to our brain’s fight or flight response. Once your brain decides a scent is familiar and safe, it stops alerting you to it so it can focus on new information like potential danger. That’s why you may suddenly “stop” smelling your perfume, even though everyone else around you can still enjoy it. Rest assured, your fragrance hasn’t disappeared, your nose has simply switched it off!
Hydration, Layering, and the Perfect Base
Fragrance loves hydrated skin. When your skin is moisturised, perfume molecules cling for longer, meaning your scent will last hours more than if applied to dry skin. One of the easiest ways to lock in your fragrance is by using a hand cream before applying. Our Hand Cream range is available in our top 10 fragrances to perfectly complement our perfume range. If you have created your own bespoke fragrance with us, you can also have it made into a custom hand cream which is perfect for making your bespoke fragrance last longer.
Enhance Longevity with Primers
Before applying your perfume, try adding one of our Fragrance Primers. Fragrance Primer 3.3 is made up of Ambroxan, and Fragrance Primer 3.9 is Iso E Super. These can be worn alone for a soft, clean scent, or used as a base to help your perfume last longer and blend seamlessly. They are designed to enhance your personal chemistry, acting like pheromones to smooth out the edges of your fragrance and extend its wear while giving it that effortlessly “you” feeling.
Fragrance Strengths
All Miller Road fragrances are Eau de Parfum (EDP). Here’s a quick guide to how concentration affects longevity:
- Eau de Cologne – 2–5% perfume oil (lasts around 2 hours)
- Eau de Toilette – 5–10% perfume oil (lasts up to 4 hours)
- Eau de Parfum – 15–20% perfume oil (lasts 6–8+ hours)
Your Perfume Ritual
- Moisturise first. Apply a hand cream or body lotion in the same (or complimentary) scent.
- Add a primer. Layer Ambroxan or Iso E Super for extra depth and staying power.
- Apply perfume to pulse points. Focus on wrists, neck, and behind knees (where warmth helps scent diffuse).
- Trust the process. Even if you can’t smell it, others can, your perfume is still there!
Perfume longevity isn’t about how much you spray, it’s more about understanding how your body interacts with scent. With a little hydration, the right layers, and a touch of primer, your fragrance will last beautifully from morning to night.
